Norman Brown – Stray With Me
Last summer I saw my first Norman Brown performance at the Capitol Jazz Festival. I was totally amazed by his performance. The last time I witnessed playing of this fashion was at my first George Benson concert years ago. When I discovered Norman was releasing a new cd the anticipation was heighten. To my surprise I was not disappointed with the new release Stay With Me. The Norman Brown sound is always clean and refreshing. He takes you on a journey with the selection Let’s Take a Ride, just the sound you need on that Sunday nature drive. The track You Keep Lifting Me Higher features vocalist Nikkole. The collaboration of her voice and Norman on guitar will attract the attention of smooth jazz radio (it’s so fresh). The coolest track is Pop’s Cool Groove. It reminded me of the music played in my home when I was a youngster (so Wes like). My favorite is So In Love, it’s so romantic. I know this selection will be on my list for my next Valentine show on Mellow Madness (88.1 WFSK). This has got to be the premiere cd for the summer. So you got the facts, now it’s time to act and purchase a copy. You won’t be sorry!!

Bobby Broom – Song and Dance
Back in 1981 I purchased Bobby Broom’s debut LP Clean Sweep. At that moment in my life Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Grant Green were held in high esteem. After listening to that cd Bobby Broom was added to that list. His new cd Song and Dance is hot. The cd kicks off with the classic Beatles Can’t Buy Me Love. Bobby’s guitar licks are amazing and Kobie Watkins on drums adds much flavor to the composition. My favorite selection is Where Is the Love. This version is so relaxing; I have visions of Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway singing this classic. Bobby takes us old heads back to the days when television was clean and pure in his version of Good Old Day (Little Rascals Theme). I have always loved this song. Glen Campbell’s Wichita Lineman flows with ease and grace. This selection melts like butter on a roll (another favorite). I can’t wait to see this cat live. The cd is waiting for you to purchase. Keep up the good work Bobby.
